Gallery & Co. seeks to democratise art and design through collaborations with Singaporean and international brands, artists and designers. The Artist Project invites a diverse mix of creative talents across the fields of art, graphic design and illustration to craft a visual response to a given theme.
“Siapa Nama Kamu?” or, “What is your name?” in Malay, is the title of the inaugural exhibition at the DBS Singapore Gallery. As the history of art in Singapore moves towards the future, it becomes clear that this story is hardly finished.
The products in this first exclusive capsule collaboration are usable and wearable forms of art created by artists and designers as a contemporary take on what Singapore means to them.
About the Artist
Agriardi explores varied projects in the area which he identified as a space within borders. Triggered by his interest in the complex relationship between human, animals and its space, now he is on a journey exploring Native Island, an expedition in a novel space within two borders; urban and wildlife realm, in the pursuit of self awareness by looking at nature.
"For me, Singapore is best represented by the view of urban birds flying and perching across the city scape. I always been curious on the complex relationship between human, animals and space. My last MA project in Central Saint Martins, was actually triggered after my visit to Singapore. I was observing how the urban bird perching on manmade structures and investigate the issues of sharing objects with another species, in the space between two realities; wild life and urban life. Urbanization leads to the loss of songbirds from urban space and become a noticeable and regrettable environmental issues, and I found it Singapore with it's rapid development is an example where birds are changing their behaviour, became urban birds and roam across the cityscape." - R.Yuki Agriardi
